Removing garbage from Launchpad

I have been trying to install Eaton's UPS Communication software. It
has been as successful as the faulty units they keep sending me.
The multi-unit online manual for my model of UPS told me to install
something called IPP, so I did, it included instructions for Ubuntu,
which I use. It did not work, I asked for help, I was told that it
needed an entirely different suite. I followed the link, downloaded it,
and saw that it was a Windows .exe file. But I have Wine installed, it
runs my Swann CCTV software, after a struggle. The installation of this
Eaton software in Wine failed.
I started to recover to some sort of operation by first following the
IPP instructions for removing the IPP software, but it threw up a
warning about being unable to complete the job due to some /usr/*/*
files not being empty. I left things there for a few days while I dealt
with a medical problem.
I returned to the PC this morning. My Applications board shows
lots of Eaton icons, none of which have any reason to be there now, and
none of which do anything. The Swann program did not launch, and the
Updater threw up a comment about broken packages. Synaptic fixed those,
and now the Swann software works again.
But I can't find how to remove the unwanted icons from the Applications
screen. I want to call it the Launchpad, but I don't know if that's
correct or not.
