From Davey@2:250/1 to All on Tuesday, September 23, 2025 11:22:10
Recently, say over the last couple of weeks, I have been experiencing
problems with my Firefox remembering login data.
Two websites especially. HSBC, which has been throwing up a pop-up
after entering my ID but before asking me for my Security Code. Even
though I always check the 'do Not Remind Me Again' box, it comes back
up later. Not always the next time I log on, but it always comes back
up again. HSBC's solution is for me to use Microsoft Edge, which I don't
    think works with Linux.
The other website is The Telegraph.co.uk, which occasionally throws up
an 'Access Restricted, you need permission' message. I have an active
account, confirmed by them. This message is usually on the home page,
but has recently broadened its range to any page. Sometimes I can
remove it by repeatedly clicking on the Reload button, sometimes it
doesn't work. I can even be on the home page successfully, then I go to
a different tab, and when I return to the home page, I get the 'Access Restricted' massage again.
Has anybody else seen anything similar? I am using Ubuntu 22.04LTS,
    Firefox ver. 143.0.1 (64-bit).
As usual, any help most appreciated.

No, in fact I rarely clear them, only when there is a need or
somebody asks me too, such these websites.

Well, I would not have thought that. I might just try it, then.
But it still goes against my dislike/distrust of anything Microsoft!
    Thanks.

Have you specified that you refuse cookies ?
If so it would not remember any pre-settings. etc although that said these cookies should be required and be able to opt out.

I do not use HSBC as I dropped them as one of my bankers years ago after
seeing what they support around the world (China for example) but Telegraph
I have no such problems and I do reject cookies (using firefox).

Yes, I have told them my cookie habits.(!)

Today, for example, the Telegraph would not let me see the home page,
it would let me see go to one of the links there, then back at the home
page, it refused me access. I cleared the cache, and it would still not
let me in. Later, it did with no problem.
Today, they said that they had recently upgraded their security
systems, and some older browsers do not now work. My version of Firefox
    must be one of them.

    This one has legs.....

I have logged in to the telegraph this pm with firefox v143.0 (with a note
of an update) with no problems once I logged in using email address and
passwd - I am a subscriber of the printed copy.

I have always felt that Chrome ignores the safety systems that other
    browsers rely on for security.

You could try deleting the Firefox snap, adding Mozzila's repo and
installing Firefox ESR. I use Ubuntu because it's familiar, but I've had my
    share of problems with Snaps.
