    So then tried run sddm which failed finding it so did a sudo sddm

    Not sure what caused the problem, but most likely there are now root
    owned files in /home.

    If the mistake has already been made, it can be fixed with:
    $ su -
    Password:
    # chown -Rc tester:tester /home/tester

    How do I recover/reset, etc, the primary system to use the KDE Gui ?
    Vincent

    As root (su - ; then root password) run mcc in a terminal window.

    Find the section on booting the system. It offers choices to select
    the gui and choose to have it start up the gui on boot.

    I boot into a terminal and then (as myself, a user) run gnome to
    start the gnome desktop. Elaborations beyond that are beyond me.

    Cheers!

    I have had a lot of trouble using Plasma with sddm. Try using lightdm
    instead to launch Plasma.
