Mageia 9. The destop icons keep rearranging themselves into the
alphabetical order rather than the order I want them in ( which is
roughly grouping into similar use). This happens on reboots on my laptop
(about 5 reboots a day). May times it does not do so, and then it will
sudeenly rearrange itself.
The Destop Folder Settings-Plasma
has Icon sorting as manual, but clearly it is not listening to this.
My best guess is that something is causing plasma to detect a change in desktop size during
boot.
Make sure the plasma desktop size is set to be the same as what X11 is
set to use.

I had a similar problem some time ago with MGA8-7-6 ??
I never found out what is was. But I also had issues with the screen resolution differences between the desktop, the graphical boot menu and
the kernel boot messages
One of the files is at root/etc/default/grub
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="nokmsboot noiswmd resume=UUID=0f26b0d8-adf7-45cf-a963-cc5d89c1a8e4 audit=0 vga=791" GRUB_DEFAULT=saved
GRUB_DISABLE_OS_PROBER=false
GRUB_DISABLE_RECOVERY=false
GRUB_DISABLE_SUBMENU=n
GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=Mageia
GRUB_ENABLE_CRYPTODISK=y
GRUB_GFXMODE=1920x1080x32
GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=auto
GRUB_SAVEDEFAULT=true
GRUB_TERMINAL_OUTPUT=gfxterm
GRUB_THEME=/boot/grub2/themes/maggy/theme.txt
GRUB_TIMEOUT=10
I believe there is another file(s) somewhere carrying GFXMODE resolution
and they should agree. The Bit Twister was immensely helpful with my
problem.
He commented on why I was the only one to have much trouble with desktop
icons
Maybe someone better with "find" could pull them up
As usual I wish I'd taken notes
