• Terminal window keeps being fullscreen

From William Unruh@2:250/1 to All on Thursday, June 27, 2024 03:43:23
If I want to open a Konsole window, I click on the icon, and often it
opens full screen, which I do not want. How to I get it to open
    non-fullscreen?

On my system I reduce down to size I want then exit, reopen and it is at
the changed size but this may depend on the console you are using and the settings of of it. Here I use qterminal with unlimited history and save
    size both under File.Preferences.behaviour

    Change to Gnome desktop!

But if you wish to continue with KDE,

    https://docs.kde.org/stable5/en/konsole/konsole/commandreference.html

    Settings → Configure Konsole...
    Opens the Konsole settings editor

This dialog has options influencing the appearance and behaviour of
    the Konsole window.

The General page allows configuring the menubar visibility,
remembering the Konsole window size, running all Konsole windows
in a single process, enabling menu accelerators, showing window
title on the titlebar, removing window titlebar and frame, and
focusing terminals when the mouse pointer is moved over them. It
is also possible to configure the search case sensitivity, usage
of the regular expression, highlighting all matches, and the
search direction (Search backwards is the default). The General
page is also the place where you can Enable all "Don't Ask Again"
messages again if they were switched off before.

    Cheers!

    jim b.

Yes, that is what I expect to happen and it sometimes does. But then it
will display full-screen when I click on the cosole icon. I never run it
full screen, so I have no idea where it is getting the full screen
    command from.

It retains the format from the LAST time you used it so if you expand the
size for ANY reason then exit - it will remember those settings and the
only solution is to resize back to the one you want and in my case it is 80
    x 43.

ANY time you change the default size you MUST resize back before exit.

This does assume you are using the same user settings for a specific user.
It will not work if you say log in (or su or sudo).
Always resize back to default first before exit.

The first I would try is rename "~/.config/konsolerc" and restart
Then setup Konsole the way you want and go from there.
Under Setting>General there is a Remember Window Size check box.
Not tested this; mine is checked

Remember, Bit Twister would ask; does it happen with the junk user?, if
not then it's YOUR config. I constantly forget this direction and waste
    hours raging off somewhere.

I have had "kwinrc" periodically fail on me and I lose access to my
desktop effects. All the settings are intact. They just don't work.

The problem is that this tends to occur on the first screen opening
after bootup (on a laptop) My desktop will open and there will be say
two konsole screens open on the desktop remembered from the last
shutdown. They are regular screens, each coverng maybe a third of the desktop area. I then click on the konsole icon to pen a third. That third one,
(the first one I open from the icon) will open as full screen. I never
had full screen open on my last time I ran the machine. After I change
the full screen window to multiscreen, thereafter the clicking the
konsole icon brings up a regular (non-fullscreen) version.

It is that initial full-screen version that is annoying.

Have you run konsole after using su (without the " -") to become root leaving config files for it owned by root?

Check with "tree -ifaug .config/|grep konsole|less".
