• Users unable to receive emails when the M restriction is applied

    The M restriction described as:

    | M | Networked Mail | User cannot send networked mail (NetMail) of any kind (QWK, FidoNet, or Internet) |

Presently this restriction also stops users receiving emails rather than just stop sending emails.

Could a change be made to allow receiving of emails when the M restriction is set?

In actuality, an M-restricted *can* receive Internet email from authenticated SMTP users.

The reasoning to not allow M-restricted users from receiving Internet email from unauthenticated users is because they wouldn't be able to respond to such mail, whereas mail from authenticated users could be replied to (since it would be a local email).

We could use another restriction flag just for this one case (e.g. 'I' restriction to prevent receipt of Internet email), but that should prevent receipt from authenticated SMTP users too?

The only problem with that assumption is the user can see their internet email address, and in the case of a user on my BBS, they have given that to someone to send in an email which they have no idea they can’t receive, whereas with the sending, the BBS tells them during sending that they don’t have sufficient rights so they know. They can then ask me, and I would give them access to send (subject to checks).

A solution to allow receiving of internet email, but not sending unless they have a restriction removed (or an exemption added) would be great.

    Thanks.
