I thought they outlawed Jolt after it made a bunch of hillbillies go blin

Not sure how it'd make you go blind, it's just like drinking 2 cokes. Modern day energy drinks have more nowadays.

My daughter now likes that brand of Yerba Mate that comes in a yellow can. Interesting, I thought - I drank a lot of Mate in the 2000s, steeped from lo leaves. Mateine is a stimulant in Mate that doesn't cause the same jitters t caffeine does.

Then, I looked at the can. It's got tons of sugar and added caffeine! Makes sense.

I remember Jolt Cola. I tried one and about 10 minutes later I thought I was going to have to go to the hospital! The effects lasted almost 2 hours on me. Whew what a bad ride.

did you freebase before your can of jolt?
it has the same sugar as a can of pepsi in today's age
and less caffeine than a monster.

In college, they held a lottery system for the food court venues to get breakfast and lunch slots. One year, the Barn N' Bun, a hot dog place, got a breakfast slot. They had the tankard of bad coffee, shrink-wrapped muffins, and as a call back to their roots, a "Breakfast Special" - A Hot Dog and a Jolt cola.

The nitrates, caffeine and sugar could knock you out of any late-night coding induced stupor.

    Elmer,

I remember Jolt Cola. I tried one and about 10 minutes later I
thought I was going to have to go to the hospital! The effects
lasted almost 2 hours on me. Whew what a bad ride.

A few years ago, I was drinking a half gallon of diet green tea
citrus a day...as a thirst quencher and a diuretic, to prevent
kidney stones. Unfortunately, the caffeine in it shot my heart
rate to 160, and put me in the hospital twice in 2 months. I ended
up with atrial flutter, and ended up having to have a cardiac
ablation done, but now I have congestive heart failure. However,
I don't get short of breath when moving around, and my oxygen
level ranges from 95 to 100%.

When I went to the Shreveport, Louisiana area in early August
for a ham radio event, the two fellow ham radio operators that
I rode with, took us to David Beard's Catfish King in Bossier
City. I must've swigged at least a pitcher of their freshly
brewed sweetened iced tea...and I was glad I didn't check my
heart rate or blood sugar after that!! <G>.

The thing is, if I only splurge on that once or twice a month,
it's not going to hurt me too badly. My main beverage of choice
is the low sugar powdered drink mix fruit punch flavor that I get
from the local Kroger grocery store. Each box contains 6 packets
that I mix with 2 quarts of water, and that's my beverage. They
have low calories and no sugar, and it tastes better than just
plain water (too bland for my taste). Or as the late W.C. Fields
noted, "I don't drink water. Fish [have sex] in it". <G>
