If you are a fan of Meredith, and also a fan of sci-fi, might I suggest you check out his appearances on The Twilight Zone TV series? "Time Enough at Last" and "The Obsolete Man" are two absolute classics. He was also in an episode of The Night Gallery, I think it was called "The Little Black Bag," that was also good.
I remember some of those episodes, but my FAVORITE Meredith episode is "The Printer's Devil" where he plays Satan. Excellent performance by Burgess
here.
One of my favorite episodes of all time other than the episode with the depressed Professor I forget the name of (Oh and a recent episode I saw of a poor guy who randomly became Santa).
The Printer's Devil was the one I couldn't remember the title of. That one
is also good.
The other two you mentioned may be the two best episodes ever, and probably
two of the best Christmastime episodes of any shows. The Changing of the
Guard is the one with the professor. Ironically, although it is set at Christmastime, it originally aired in June! The other one is the Night of
the Meek and features Art Carney as the bum/department store Santa.
Night of the Meek was remade during the 1985 revival of the
series, but I don't remember who played the bum in that one. That full
episode is on youtube as The Twilight Zone (1985) Night of the Meek. The original is better, of course, but that version isn't bad.
