DUNNO, that install-xtrn .ini shit is pretty convoluted.
an installer) and make the Synchronet-install of their program that
much more automated. That hasn't really happened much, but it could definitely help eliminate fat-finger or RTFM-stylel mistakes
by sysops if more door authors did so.
I think the "convultion" you're referring to is the
xtrn/3rd-install/*.ini files and that's not what I'm referring to.
All that for doorgame that has to go in a directory, use a certain dropfile and have a short command line.

Hello, LoneWolf. I installed the new AI-WX door on my BBS yesterday, but I keep getting an error
"DOSEXTRN Error 2 (no such file or directory) executing LWSWeather.exe -DC:\sbbs\node1\ -I0001"
Any idea what I have set wrong? I set it as directed with "LWSWeather.exe -D%n", but I just get the error above.
Greg
Try these suggestions and see if any of them help...
1. Make sure you placed all of the files in the zip in the same folder.
2. Make sure you have I/O Method set to Socket.
3. Native Executable/Script should be set to Yes
4. BBS Drop FIle Type should be DOOR32.SYS.
5. The most likely issue, according to the SBBS error message is that your startup directory is not correct. Make sure your Start-up Directory is pointing to the folder where the door actual exists, something like ../xtrn/weather/
Your Command Line above looks good.
Hope this helps,
After going through your suggestions and making necessary
corrections, I no longer get the error message. However, when I
attempt to run the program I get nothing on my screen and can't even
get out of the program.

also your door directory name is goofy
Thanks. It is now working after changing the i/o method to socket.
I didn't make any other changes. Yes, the door directory name is
goofy, but that's just the way I am. LOL
his install text file is too wordy and needs to be pared down in my opinion. i would do screenshots for synchronet and mystic and linux installs and on the bottom i'd put the command switches.

I'll add screenshots to the next version 1.7 release's !NSTALL.TXT file for folks that just look at the pictures of a manual. ;) I also very much appreciate fellow sysops helping other sysops to get the door working on their systems.

Please consider including an install-xtrn.ini file as well. If you need help creating one, please ask. https://wiki.synchro.net/module:install-xtrn --
digital man (rob)
Hey, I'm not too proud to admit I made a nistake and missed the
"Socket" setting. I do appreciate the help (although the directory I
used doesn't really make a difference one way or the other.)
I'll look into it Digital Man and add that to the next release
too.
Vince,
I'll look into it Digital Man and add that to the next release too.
I can't recall if there's a file_id.diz in the archive, but I am
likely going to post a promo for it in the weather related echoes
that I'm part of.
The only reason I'm up at this hour, is that the computer in my
bedroom (not the BBS computer...it's in my late parents bedroom),
woke me up when the screen came on for Windows Update (for W11). But,
when I checked the BBS computer (also W11), it said it was up to
date...go figure.

These modern-day screens now come with a nice feature - they
have a Power Button on them, so it stays dark when not being
used. ;-)
