I've been running my BBS out of the same c:\sbbs\ folder since 2005. I'm wondering what the best way of identifying orphan files and cleaning up
    my install would be.

yeah really. there's a lot of .cfg and .ini files that i'm not sure
how to deal with. would be nice to have a script to clean it up and marry
    them into the current configuration

from the looks of it you might be able to turn on the 'last accessed'
timestamp in NTFS and just run Sync and see if it gets updated or not
    after a bit.

I'd suggest doing a fresh install of the latest development version on a
"test box". Then just compare the various directory contents of that
one to your existing old install.

Also keep in mind that there are many changes to some of the files which
will be in both installations, such as 'modopts.ini'. Those should
probably be carefully compared to see if any of the additions in the new
    one are needed (or wanted).

Just a head's up that this sub isn't intended for Synchronet discussion/support, we have other subs for that.

That said, the documentation (e.g. https://wiki.synchro.net/history:newcfgfiles) helps to identify what files are orphans.

I'm conservative about removing old files since that prevents an easy revert to an older version of SBBS, should that be desired.
